Hospitality and Catering Diploma Launched in Style

Doncaster's Hospitality and Catering Diploma, an
innovative new collaborative course, was launched in style in
June.
The 14-19 Diploma, which aims to help students
learn a variety of skills in a vocational environment, was launched
at Doncaster College’s Waterfront Restaurant on Thursday, June
5.
The event was attended by scores of employers
from the hospitality and catering world who were treated to
presentations from Doncaster Council’s School Improvement Service,
Mount Pleasant Hotel’s General Manager Richard Tyas and College
BTEC student Stacey Hillman.

The collaborative – called Taste for Success –
is supported via Doncaster Council, led by Doncaster College and
consists of various secondary schools, YMCA Training, Dearne
Valley College and Thomas Danby College.
Students can study at a variety of levels
between the ages of 14-19 at a number of different venues across
the town. Students will gain literacy, numeracy and other skills
while also honing their hospitality and catering talents.

Councillor Patrick Wilson, Doncaster Council’s
Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “The
Hospitality and Catering 14 - 19 Diploma is a fantastic new course
that offers the young people of Doncaster the opportunity to study
for something different. Not only will students be able to improve
on their basic and key skills but they will also obtain
the practical experience and knowledge that is
needed for entry into the Hospitality and Catering
industry.”
The launch event held at The Hub was funded by
Objective 1.
