Top of the Class for School Pupils

Over 350 school children from across
the borough graduated from the Doncaster Children’s University at
ceremonies at Doncaster College.
The events were held over 4 days at Doncaster
College’s Hub campus at the end of June and the beginning of
July.
Gervase Phinn, the well-known author and
raconteur and the Chancellor of Doncaster Children’s University
handed out certificates and spoke to children and parents about the
importance of learning outside the classroom and the funny side of
education. As always He was witty and thoroughly engaging.
Among other guests who attended were George
Trow, Principal and Chief Executive of Doncaster College, Jo
Miller, Doncaster Council’s Chief Executive, and Jo Moxon,
Assistant Director of Education at Doncaster Council.

Lynne Upton, Director of Learning at the
National Children’s University delivered an entertaining speech at
one of the events and Hilary Robinson, children’s author and radio
producer, was an interesting keynote speaker at another of the
events
Doncaster is one nine Children's Universities
based in a Further Education college and It offers opportunities to
all children and young people aged between 7 and 14 through their
schools' involvement with the scheme. Over 20 schools in the
Doncaster area have joined Children's University.
