Ruth Brook Elected Chair of Governors at Doncaster College
Ruth Brook has been elected as the new
Chair of Doncaster College’s Board of Governors. She replaces
the outgoing Chair, Rob Wilmot who is standing
down.
Mrs Brook, who is currently Vice-Chair of the
Board, has been a Governor of the College for six years but she has
been involved with the College for much longer beginning with her
teacher’s training at High Melton, 35 years ago in the early
1970’s,
She then taught in local schools before having
a family. When she returned to work it was as a lecturer at
Doncaster College, going from part-time tutor to full-time course
leader during the 1990s.
Mrs Brook moved to Doncaster Council in 1999
to work with Schools, Early Years and Lifelong Learning and now
manages the Adult, Family & Community Learning service.
As well as being a Governor of Doncaster
College Mrs Brook has dedicated much of her time to her local
community, which has included setting up and running a village
playgroup, and being a local school governor.
She said “I have enjoyed supporting the
College over the last few years as a Governor and as a Vice Chair
and now look forward to my new role as Chair of the
Corporation.
I have always been involved in the education
sector through my work and community involvement. These are
challenging times for all sectors, families and communities and I
know that the College can play a key role in helping Doncaster and
our citizens, to take advantage of new opportunities that will be
created in the borough.
I will endeavour to lead this Governing Body
in re-confirming it’s commitment, working together with the
Principal and Clerk to make sure that Doncaster College determines
its ambition, recognises the risks and plans for success - in
inspection, in leading the education agenda, raising aspiration of
learners and being business critical to local employers.”
George Trow, Principal and Chief Executive of
Doncaster College said, “Ruth has been Vice-Chair of the
Corporation and brings a wealth of experience to the role, I am
looking forward to working with her to support the further
development of the College and the important role it plays in the
life of the Doncaster area.”
The Corporation Board is the Governing Body of
the College, comprised of people from a range of backgrounds
reflecting the community the College serves, and includes staff and
learners.
The Corporation Board is responsible for the
overall functioning of the College. In general terms, it is
responsible for the quality of service that the College offers to
learners and the local community, as well as the College’s
financial health and its strategic direction.
