rate.
Gill Parkes, Academy Director for Commercial
Enterprise said” This is a tremendous achievement against a
national average of 48% of students gaining this
qualification.”
The students with their tutors, Michelle
Jackson, Julia Calvert and Amanda Gleadall have been very
enthusiastic about this subject but as essentially practical people
this has not been an easy road. In addition to producing a
portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their competence they have had
to take an exam in the subject as well, making the feat an even
more remarkable accomplishment.
Proficiency with computers and their
programmes is not the first thing you would think of as being
useful to a catering and hospitality student but in these days of
technology, orders are taken using information technology, sales
patterns are analysed, food ordering is electronic and calculating
profit margins is software based.
So the importance of developing key skills in
IT cannot be underestimated and therefore the teaching of this
subject in the catering department has taken on a specific
relevance.
Doncaster College hosts a range of Catering
