Baking Cakes and Baking Sun

On the hottest day of the year so far, Students from Doncaster College set off on an endurance walk around Doncaster Lakeside, to collect as much money as they could for charity.

In the sweltering heat, and with the help of their lecturers with plenty of water on hand, students from the Health and Social Care Level 3 course walked circuit after circuit around the two-mile route in aid of Bluebell Wood.

The previous week the same students put on a 'Dress in Yellow' day to support another good cause, the Sheffield Children's Hospital. They sold home made cakes and many other goodies from a number of stalls at Doncaster College's Hub Campus.

Hayley McIlwrick, 18, from Barnsley, a student on the course at Doncaster College said, "We think they are two really good causes to support so we all put a pound in to buy all the baking ingredients and we all baked.

"We asked for donations and sponsorship from local businesses like Sainsbury's and pizza places for other items to sell. In all about 30 to 40 students have taken part."

In total, the two good causes will benefit to the tune of over £1200.
