Football Ace Helps Net £11000 For Charity

University Centre Doncaster Student and ex-professional
footballer Daryl Clare played in a football match recently to raise
funds for charity.
Playing alongside famous comedians John Bishop
and Jason Manford, Daryl helped raised £11000 pounds for a
foundation Trust set up in memory of Cieran Geddes, a seven year
old boy who died of a heart attack while playing football with his
friends.
The money raised will go towards buying
defibrillators for schools and the British Heart Foundation.
The match was played at the Exacta stadium,
the home of Chester City and a club that Daryl once played for.
Daryl has been a prolific goalscorer, netting over 160 goals, in a
career spanning 16 years, and encompassing many different league
and non-league clubs and picking up many honours along the way,
including twice winning the conference golden boot award and a
number of Republic of Ireland under-21 and ‘B’ international
caps.
Daryl, 33, has just finished his first year of
study on the foundation degree, Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences
programme Year 1 at the University Centre Doncaster, High Melton
campus and eventually wants to become a physical education
teacher.
Daryl said, “It was an honour to play in the
charity game and raise money for such a good cause. It was a
great turn out and the whole day was positive and successful.”
Craig Winstanley, one of Daryl’s lecturers, said “it’s great
that we have so many students from different backgrounds on our
course and it adds a real positive dynamic when these experiences
can be shared. “
