Andrea Wins Again!

Andrea Lake, an Access student at Doncaster College, just keeps winning competitions. This time she has scooped first prize in a short story competition.

Last December, Andrea won a film review competition and now she has won the competition entitled 'If I won £5000…' which was run by the Learning Resource Centre at Doncaster College, as part of English and Maths week.

Once again, Andrea’s entry, which was a poem, stood out for the judging panel and she has added to her haul of high street vouchers after receiving her prize from Bonny Hodge, Deputy Principal at Doncaster College.

This will be the last competition Andrea will be able to enter at Doncaster College as the 40 year old from Selby has a place lined up at Leeds University studying English Literature and English Language in a combined Bachelors of Arts Degree. Naturally, she hopes to get work as a writer and wants to get a job in copywriting when she enters the world of work.

The short story competition was sponsored by the Learning Resource Centre, The Learning Zone and the Functional Skills Department, all based at the College.

Held once a term at the College, the aim of English and Maths week is to raise awareness of the importance of good English and Maths skills for everyday life, as well the successful achievement of qualifications leading to future employment.
