International icon of British Graphic Design, Angus Hyland, graced University Centre Doncaster in March.

Angus has been described as one of the ‘goliaths’ of the UK and international design industry, renowned for producing innovative work in a variety of design areas. He gave a talk to students and staff at the University Centre, at High Melton, on Friday, March 6.

His associates include some of design’s other big hitters, including Paula Scher, Michael Bierut and Dominic Lippa, and the late, great Alan Fletcher.

Angus delivered a one-and-a-half-hour long informative and inspirational seminar – a unique opportunity for Doncaster’s further and higher education design students and staff to gain great insight into how some of the most successful brands, including Penguin Publishing, EAT diners and Matter Nightclub (housed within London’s 02 Millennium Dome) were created.

Attendees were also offered the chance to ask questions about Angus’s past and present work, the high points of his career and advice about graduate employment.

The University Centre’s BA (Hons) Graphic Design course is currently in the process of building its Visiting Lecturer programme, with Adrian Shaughnessy, author of the internationally renowned bestseller ‘How to become a graphic designer without losing your soul’, being confirmed as the next guest lecturer. He will be delivering his lecture at the University Centre on Wednesday, April 8.
