Matthew Smith has been rewarded for his exceptional work
achieved while studying on a degree course at the University Centre
Doncaster. He has received the Polypipe Sponsored Award 2012 for an
Outstanding Engineering Project.
Matthew, 28, completed his project to a very high standard. He
produced a software package for use by Electrical Engineers in the
field of Building Services Engineering. Its purpose was to enable
Electrical Engineers to obtain instant results from the necessary
design and regulation focused calculations rather than take a
considerable time performing them manually. It had to be easy to
use, quick and functional.
Melissa Flett from Polypipe presented Matthew with the award,
she said, ‘I was delighted to be able to present the prize on
behalf of Polypipe of £500 to Matthew Smith for his absolutely
outstanding engineering project.
‘As a major local manufacturing business, engineering students
from Doncaster such as Matthew are key to Polypipe’s future
success; and Polypipe remains committed to investing in the people
of Doncaster and supporting the University Centre Doncaster and
Doncaster College and their engineering students.’
Matthew’s tutor, Ray Hobson said, ‘Matthew has been a student
with us for 5 years. He started on the part-time HNC course
and moved on to the HND conversion. Finally, his good grades
allowed him to study the top-up degree. He was awarded a
first class honors degree which he thoroughly deserved.’
