Students and Staff with Jessica Ennis (fourth from right)
Sports students from Doncaster College had a surprise
bonus recently, during a visit to the English Institute of Sport in
Sheffield, when they bumped into Olympic gold medal hopeful,
Jessica Ennis.
Pete Holmes, Sports and Exercise Science lecturer at the College
and one of the organisers of the trip said, “Jessica was training
all the morning that we were there, so we had lots of opportunity
to watch her. I grabbed her on the way out for a photo, so we
didn’t really get to chat much to her! We were pretty thrilled
about it though and some of the students were getting changed and
missed the picture, so they were gutted.”
A mix of twenty-seven, Level 2 and Level 3 students, toured the
world-class facilities at the Institute and had the opportunity to
take part in some mixed athletic sessions and netball. As well as
seeing Jessica Ennis they saw some of the Great Britain Paralympics
Table Tennis players training “and they were pretty impressive,”
said Pete.
The trip is one of a number of visits, trips and activities
arranged during the students time at College, which are beneficial
to their course and learning.
Doncaster College runs a host of sports-based courses from its
Hub campus.
