Young Peoples Learning Agency
Chief Executive Visits The College
Deputy Principal, Angela Kokes shows Peter Lauener around the
college
Peter Lauener, Chief Executive
of the newly formed Young Peoples Learning Agency, visited the
college while on a recent trip to Yorkshire and
Humberside.
During the visit he met with the new
Principal George Trow who said “It was an important opportunity for
us to really show off some of the excellent work staff and students
are engaged in here at Doncaster College. I know Peter was really
impressed and he gave up a considerable amount of his time to visit
the college including a question and answer session with the
Executive Team and Rob Wilmot, Chair of Governors.”
Mr Lauener was also taken on a tour of
the college by Deputy Principal, Angela Kokes and Catherine
Parkinson ,Vice Principal Resources, and he had the opportunity to
meet with and talk to students and staff he said “It’s
exciting to see the public money we are entrusted with having a
real impact on young people’s lives”. He went on to say “Doncaster
College has had its share of problems in recent years but I thought
that they are now well on the way to recovery. Lots of colleges
have shops and salons where members of the public can buy goods and
services but I have never seen an arrangement quite like Doncaster
where they have something that feels like a shopping high
street. I bought an excellent hanging basket and I am looking
forward to seeing it flower over the summer!”
The YPLA was launched in April to
champion education and training for young people in England by
providing financial support to young learners and commissioning
suitable education and training for all 16 to 19 year olds. Along
with the Skills Funding Agency it replaced The Learning and Skills
Council.
