Two cooks from the Doncaster Schools Catering service who trained at the School Feast Kitchen at Doncaster College took part in the TV programme Street Market Chefs, filmed in Doncaster during summer. The show is due for transmission on Channel Five at 7.30pm on 16th November.
The cooks, Lisa Scriven and Jo Gore, work at Intake Primary and Edlington St. Mary's respectively. To celebrate their forthcoming appearance, the College and partners invited one class of primary school children from each of the schools to the Waterfront Restaurant at the Hub on Thursday 4th November for a meal.
Sixty school children were served their school lunch at tables in the plush surroundings of the restaurant. The meal of beef cobbler, potatoes and vegetables followed by chocolate sponge, was prepared and served by the cooks and Doncaster College Hospitality and Catering students.
This was followed by a presentation to the cooks by Councillors Andrea Milner and Mark Thompson to thank them for their involvement in the programme. Examples of dishes cooked on the day were also on display.
Gill Parkes, Academy Director for Commercial Enterprise at the College said, "Doncaster College was pleased to host this event on behalf of the FEAST partnership including the college, NHS Doncaster and Doncaster School Meals. The School FEAST Centre is based at the College, and the school cooks participating in the competition were all trained at the College too. The Hospitality and Catering area is proud of its connections to the local workforce and its contribution to developing skills in the workforce."
