CarShop Donate Car to College

Doncaster College has received the donation of a car from CarShop Doncaster to use in the College’s motor vehicle department.

CarShop, which is the Uk’s leading used car supermarket group, has donated a Vauxhall Astra 1.7 DTI for students to work on.

Peter Brennan, the Service Centre Manager at CarShop Doncaster, which is situated on Trax Park just off Junction 3 of the M18 said, "With advancements in technology, and a stronger focus on education, the motor industry bears little resemblance to when I joined over 25 years ago. Starting out as a trainee mechanic, experience has proved that this dynamic industry provides immense scope for diversification and progression to anyone who has a passion for cars."

Peter, an ex-Doncaster College student, pointed out that CarShop do more than sell cars. They offer servicing and M.O.T’s, "I understand the importance of nurturing future mechanics and providing them with the tools they need in order to succeed and what I want to get across is the CarShop really does invest in the local community and the future talent of the industry.

"It is therefore with great pleasure that we will be donating a Vauxhall Astra 1.7 DTI to Doncaster College; thus allowing students to refine their practical skills alongside gaining a first class academic education."

John Ellis, Head of Motor Vehicle at the College, accepted the vehicle on behalf of the College and thanked the CarShop for their donation.

He said, "Working with local companies is both rewarding and enterprising for both parties," he went on to say, "In these austere times it is vitally important that industry and education can work and support each other in new technologies. Peter understands the importance of learners accessing new technologies because as stated by Peter he has come through the apprenticeship scheme and knows how hard it is to work on new technologies."

With the donation of the Astra Turbo Diesel Estate, Doncaster College students will get the opportunity to work on newer, more modern vehicles to help them with their studies.
