Poppy Appeal Inspires Students
Students from Doncaster College held an event to help
raise money and awareness for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy
Appeal. They have raised over £200 through their
efforts.
Vol.Success volunteers organized the activities and some
students on courses from throughout the College gave up their free
time to present activities that included, face painting, tombola,
hanging crosses on the remembrance tree, selling tea and cakes, and
guess how many poppies in the jar.
Sports and Public service students took it turns to cycle
hundreds of miles on exercise bikes in a cycling marathon, Beauty
learners painted poppies on faces.
Vol.Success is about individuals gaining valuable working
experience and qualifications while understanding and taking
ownership of their wider community.
Vol.Success has taken the positive elements of vTalent, an
earlier initiative and developed an experience for individuals
which is unique within the FE sector using the springboard of
workplace experience, networking, building confidence and
developing new skills as well as a core element of
qualifications.
The programme offers up to 21 hours a week volunteering with a
cluster of up to 4 qualifications and additional qualifications in
basic skills plus the possibility of placement-related
qualifications.
The aim of the programme is to inspire individuals to reach into
their own communities via volunteering and to gain in confidence
and self-esteem through the acquisition of qualifications and
voluntary experience.
