Poppy Appeal Inspires Students

Students from Doncaster College held an event to help raise money and awareness for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. They have raised over £200 through their efforts.

Vol.Success volunteers organized the activities and some students on courses from throughout the College gave up their free time to present activities that included, face painting, tombola, hanging crosses on the remembrance tree, selling tea and cakes, and guess how many poppies in the jar.

Sports and Public service students took it turns to cycle hundreds of miles on exercise bikes in a cycling marathon, Beauty learners painted poppies on faces.

Vol.Success is about individuals gaining valuable working experience and qualifications while understanding and taking ownership of their wider community.

Vol.Success has taken the positive elements of vTalent, an earlier initiative and developed an experience for individuals which is unique within the FE sector using the springboard of workplace experience, networking, building confidence and developing new skills as well as a core element of qualifications.

The programme offers up to 21 hours a week volunteering with a cluster of up to 4 qualifications and additional qualifications in basic skills plus the possibility of placement-related qualifications.

The aim of the programme is to inspire individuals to reach into their own communities via volunteering and to gain in confidence and self-esteem through the acquisition of qualifications and voluntary experience.
