Catering students from Doncaster College have launched a
series of monthly, themed food tasting events in partnership with
Doncaster Markets.
The tastings will take place in Doncaster’s famous,
award-winning Market on a Friday, every month until May of next
year.
At the first event, on September 30th, as part of a celebration
of British Food Fortnight, students used the finest seasonal
ingredients, sourced from the surrounding market stalls, to create
and cook some mouth-watering dishes. Sausage cassoulet, fish stew,
pork pies, leek and potato soup, scotch broth, short bread and
carrot cake were among a host of goodies which attracted much
attention from passers-by.
The Mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davies, was on hand to sample a
selection of these tasty dishes and to encourage shoppers to have a
nibble and enjoy the Best of British.
Over the coming months over sixty Level 2 and Level 3 catering
students will be showcasing their cooking skills to the public in
the Market Place and in the process highlighting other activities
such as themed nights in the College’s Waterfront training
Restaurant, which provides a real world working environment for
hospitality and catering students at the College.
Simon French, Hospitality and Catering lecturer at the College
said, "So far the feedback has been very positive from the public,
we are already seeing people who have been to the market now eating
in the Waterfront Restaurant."
The next tasting day will be Friday 14th Oct where hungry
shoppers will be able to check out a selection of curries.
