Fabulous Fashionistas
Freya Nagelsmann, 22, at The Hub, Doncaster College
Two fashion students are set to grace
a national exhibition later this month with their latest
designs.
Freya Nagelsmann and Laura Heywood, both 22,
will be displaying their work at the Museum of London’s Fashion
Diversity exhibition on September 19 and 20 – an event to showcase
the country’s top up and coming designers.
The duo are both fashion students at
University Centre Doncaster, which is operated by Doncaster
College. Freya is starting her third year on the BA (Hons) Combined
Design degree while Laura graduated last year from the same course
and is returning to the Centre to start up her own business through
the Centre’s innovative business incubator programme.
They were approached by impressed curators of
the exhibition while displaying work at Graduate Fashion Week at
Earl’s Court in London earlier this year.
Freya, who swapped Berlin for Doncaster to
start her fashion studies four years ago, will be displaying her
Urban Culture and Ethnic Pop menswear designs at the
exhibition.
She said: “I was totally shocked when I was
told I had been picked to display my work at the museum. There will
be students from all the top art colleges in the country there too
and I am very proud to be chosen alongside them.
“My designs are inspired from the 1960s and
70s but I’ve given them a twist so they wouldn’t look out of place
for Spring and Summer 2009.”
Laura, who lives in Leeds, will be displaying
her Studio54 womenswear designs based on 1970s disco.
She said: "I'm really excited about going to
London and having my collection go down the catwalk. It's an
amazing opportunity to launch my label and newly created website. I
will embrace the entire event and hope everything goes well."
Course leader Debbie Pulleyblank said: “This
is an amazing opportunity for these students, all the fashion staff
are incredibly proud of Laura and Freya’s professionalism,
commitment and creativity.”
