Protocol Drives on the Bloodhound Message
The BLOODHOUND SSC
On Monday 6 September, the town of
Doncaster will host a rocket powered car that is about to break
records. The BLOODHOUND SSC (Super Sonic Car) will be located at
Doncaster College and will be free for the public to explore
between 6 and 8pm.
The public open evening has been organised as
an extension to the College’s student enrolment week, to give the
public the opportunity to view the 13 metre, one tonne BLOODHOUND
show car up close.
The BLOODHOUND Project is Britain’s latest
attempt to break the World Land Speed Record, with an awesome car
capable of 1,050mph. Project Director Richard Noble is looking to
beat his team’s own previous record set by Thrust SSC, in 1997.
Fresh from its grand unveiling at Farnborough International
Airshow, the car will take centre stage at the college entrance, to
inspire and excite visitors.
Those attending will be able to experience the
sensation of driving at more than 1,000mph in the BLOODHOUND
Driving Simulator and meet the team behind the project.
Competitions and presentations will take place including a mini
BLOODHOUND Balloon Car Race and everyone will be able to take a
closer look at the spectacular BLOODHOUND show car itself.
The presence of the BLOODHOUND SSC team at
Doncaster College was made possible by Protocol National, a sponsor
of The BLOODHOUND Project and its official FE Partner. As the
largest provider of outsourced recruitment services to the FE
sector, Business Development Manager, David Beynon, said, “Protocol
National is proud to be supporting the project as it engages
learners and inspires a generation to pursue the STEM subjects of
science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”
It is hoped that throwing open the doors of
the college on Monday evening will focus attention on STEM skills,
and the need for more people to study the subjects.
Tim Branigan is an Advanced Teaching
Practitioner in Motor Vehicle Studies at Doncaster College, and the
first Protocol National BLOODHOUND Ambassador. He said, “I can’t
think of a more exciting way for children and adults to learn about
the wonders of engineering than to see a real life Super Sonic Car!
It is fantastic for the College and the town to have the BLOODHOUND
team here with us and a great opportunity to capture the attention
of young people and show how exciting engineering, technology,
science and maths can really be.
“As a college we are strongly focusing on STEM
subjects right now and BLOODHOUND is a great resource to have on
our side.”
It is widely known that a lack of students
taking on STEM subjects has inevitably led to a shortage of skilled
professionals in these fields. As well as attempting to beat the
world land speed record, BLOODHOUND’s mission is to inspire future
generations and current students to pursue STEM subjects by
showcasing these in the most exciting way possible.
