Doncaster Children’s University |
| Started at college: 2006 |
Hello - I have just started here at
Doncaster College, as the Project Director for Doncaster Children’s
University. I have worked with children and young people for the
past 20 years in very different ways.
I set up and delivered (with a team) after
school and holiday activities for disabled children and young
people and managed a 25-place private day nursery for 12 years
before joining the College. Over the years I have been involved in
various projects with children, about children and have learnt
something from all of them.
I have always put the children and young
people I work with first. I believe that to be key to the success
of the projects I have been involved in. I aim to do the same with
Doncaster Children’s University. Children’s Universities are all
about providing creative, exciting and fun learning activities for
children and young people 7 to 14 years outside school hours. We
aim to raise achievement, attainment self esteem and confidence, we
hope Doncaster Children’s University will foster a love of learning
that children and young people will carry with them into adult
life.
We ran a very successful pilot scheme which
started last year, now all I have to do is get more children,
schools, volunteer mentors, tutors and local businesses on board to
make it work! That’s what project management is all about, it’s a
bit like spinning plates to make sure everything moves along at the
right time and that everything and everybody is ready to go at the
same time.
If anyone would like to know more or be part
of Doncaster Children’s University you can pop up to see me I’m in
room S.3.814 in the LRC, just ask at reception.
