| Name: Gail Seymour |
| Course: National Certificate in Floristry
Level 2 |
| Interesting Fact: I took part in the Harrogate
Spring Flower Show |
After eight years out of the job
market I didn’t want to return to an office environment, but wanted
to learn a new skill and be creative.
I’d looked into floristry as an option when I
did my GCSE’s but my careers advisor talked me into A Levels and
University. After that, I’d look at the FE prospectus every year
and think ‘one day I’ll have a go at that’ but never got round to
doing anything about it.
The when plans for The Hub were announced I
said when it opened I would be here on a course. So when I saw the
floristry courses were to be held here, I knew the time was
right.
I started the NOCN course in September which
is a three-week taster course, and then went onto the National
Certificate, which has given me a good basic knowledge of floristry
techniques.
I’ve found the College to be a relaxed
learning environment, with flexible learning and supportive tutors.
Although I was concerned about returning to full-time education as
a mature student, there are lots of other mature students in the
department – and both of my big sisters are here too on Access to
HE courses, so I haven’t felt at all out of place.
