| Interesting Fact: I have entered the Sahara Desert
Challenge, a week-long test of endurance. |
Josh Blake, 19, is someone who likes a challenge and
he’s volunteered for a pretty tough one. Josh, who is a Mechanical
Engineering Apprentice at Doncaster College, has entered for the
Sahara Desert Challenge.
Lasting a whole week, Josh, will bike, trek,
run and orienteer across 150km of rugged landscape, contending with
the extremes of the heat of the day and the cold of the night to
raise funds for the Princes Trust.
Asked why he wanted to do it Josh said, matter
of factly:
‘I like a challenge. I was at a
Christmas party and so I put my name down for it. I work for UK
Coal and ten of us decided to go. We hope to raise as much as
£40,000 for the Princes Trust and help a lot of disadvantaged young
people. My employers have been really good paying my subscription
and allowing me the time off. The College have been really helpful
too.’
Josh is training hard for his ordeal and
although naturally fit through playing rugby it will take a lot of
mental strength and stamina to contend the intense heat and up to 9
hours a day of physical activity.
‘It’s going to be 35-40 degrees out there so
I’m doing training runs in a hot suit, a sort of binliner type
thing, I want to compete to win so I’m working really hard’
The challenge takes place from the
2nd to the 9th of May, and when finished all
achievements will be toasted and trophies will be awarded to the
first past the post and to the top fundraisers at a Moroccan feast
in the ancient city of Marrakesh.
