"I didn’t learn anything at school," admits
Kim honestly.
School and Kim did not mix particularly well and, consequently
she left without any GCSEs.
Fresh Start at Doncaster College was suggested
by her Connexions Worker and Kim without any real alternative duly
signed up.
She said going for the course was, "one of the
best things I ever did!"
In a different environment and the help from
her tutors Kim was able to flourish. "I'm a very fidgety person,
and lets say I'm not the quietest," laughs Kim.
"I needed lots of support from my tutors to
give me that little push when I needed it! I did employability
skills, learning how to do CVs and job interviews etc, and I passed
my Key Skills (Functional Skills) in English and Maths."
Fresh start gave Kim the confidence to come
back for more. This year she's signed up to be a vTalent Volunteer,
which will enhance her skills, allow her to get more qualifications
and make her more employable in the jobs market.
"I can go and work in different areas of the College, like admin
or work with tutors and students. It all sounds really exciting.
Fresh Start helped me get on this course, I wouldn't have done it
without it."
