Name: Maryanne Fletcher
Courses: Access to HE ICT
Interesting Fact: I’m 38-year-old proud mother of three.

I was a support worker for the NHS up until September, working with people with learning difficulties. Even though it was a rewarding job I felt it was time for a change, so I have come back to education after an absence of more than 20 years. I decided to take ICT because I’ve always been computer friendly, even though they weren’t in schools when I was little, but then that was back in the dark ages before mobile phones were invented. My first computer was a ZX81 and I was about 17. It had a memory pack that gave it a whopping 16MB (yes MB) memory, and everything from it was in black and white.

I think the feel of the College is great, very modern and spacious. The canteen is cheap - 80p for a bacon roll, and the food is good. Do you think if I also say my tutors are great they’ll give me a pass? The morale of the College seems to be high doesn’t it? Despite there being teething problems, across the board, everyone seems to be smiling and getting on with it.

I’ve also volunteered to be the editor for the College student newspaper and I’d really like it to be successful. In order to do this I need help from other students, so if you have any ideas or funny stories PLEASE get in touch - we’d love to hear from you. You can email newspaper@don.ac.uk or text DON PAPER and your message to 88020.
