Coming to Doncaster was nothing short
of terrifying from my perspective two years ago. It would be
my first time living away from home.
Away from the idyllic flatlander scene of
rural Suffolk, Doncaster would prove to be an experience that would
change my outlook of my own potential.
During my A-levels, I failed to achieve the
grades I needed to get into what society would deem to be a ‘well
established’ university. My design teachers frowned at my
approach to their subjects. I came to Doncaster with little
more than a vague direction to where I wanted to be in my
future. I joined the FdA course in Animation and Games Design
because, honestly, it sounded like a damn good laugh.
Two years down the line, and a fantastically
inspired, thought inciting, unquestionably dedicated line up of
tutors has helped me beyond all previous realisations to get me to
where I am today. Recently, I have been offered a place at
Coventry School of Art and Design on their vehicle design course,
the gateway to a job that I have dreamed of since I was about
4.
When I arrived in Doncaster for the first
time, its monochromatic atmosphere passed by me without invoking
any response of emotion.
As I floored an overloaded Volkswagen onto the
A1, I was genuinely sad to leave.
There’s something about Doncaster I can’t put
my finger on.
