High Melton Network Disruption - 23rd January to 21st February

As part of CITS ongoing commitment to improving the High Melton
networking infrastructure, we are currently in the process of
installing new network switches and UPS (Uninterruptable Power
Supply) units in rooms across the High Melton site.
This will involve the removal of the old switches, installation
of the new switches, and reconnection of the network cabling. This
will unfortunately mean unavoidable downtime periods in certain
areas and so there will be no guaranteed access to network
resources during the various installation periods listed below.
During the downtime period in each area there will be no
guaranteed access to the following services:
For Staff
Internet access, printing facilities, telephones, you may not be
able to logon to a PC, access to your ‘My Documents’ folder, access
to your departmental shares.
For Students
May not be able to logon to a PC, Internet access, printing
facilities.
During the downtime periods for your area you may experience
either total loss or intermittent loss of the services listed
above. If you do manage to logon to a PC in the morning before the
network goes down, then if you are working on any documents please
copy them to your desktop and work on them from there, do not work
directly on network documents during the downtime periods in your
area, as there will be no indication as to when the network is
about to go down.

We are sorry for any inconvenience these new installations may
cause to staff and students. However, once the upgrade program has
been completed, all users at High Melton should experience a more
stable connection to the network, and during power outages the
network switches and telephone systems will remain online and
powered due to the new UPS units that are being installed alongside
the new switches.
