Student Finance England Deadlines

  • New Customers: 31st May 2013
  • Returning Customers: 28th June 2013

Returning students who received non-means tested support in 2012/13 may not need to reapply if they want the same type of support in 2013/14. The students affected will be contacted by the end of February.

Financial Support available for most students

Financial Support is available to most students in some form, including:

HE Bursary

The Undergraduate HE Bursary is only available for returning students from academic year 2011/12.

Returning students can apply for the same award that they have previously received in other academic years.

Forms will be available online from August 2013 for academic year 2013/14. The closing date for applications is Friday 20th December 2013.

Access to Learning Fund (ALF)

The Access to Learning Fund (ALF) is made available to the College by the Government to enable the provision of discretionary financial assistance for eligible students to help them access and remain in higher education when they are experiencing genuine financial hardship. As well as providing help to students who need financial assistance to meet extra costs that cannot be met from other sources of support, the Fund can help to alleviate unexpected severe financial hardship. Students who may be considering leaving higher education because of financial difficulties are particularly encouraged to apply.

Scholarships

The University Centre Doncaster is participating in the new Government National Scholarship Scheme and has 42 scholarships for full-time undergraduates entering Higher Education in the 2013/14 academic year.

The National Scholarship Programme is in place to help students from low income families who are entering Higher Education in 2013/14 and is jointly funded by the Government and The University Centre Doncaster.

If you are a full-time student, our National Scholarship Programme awards a £3,000 discount against your tuition fees (please note that if you are awarded a Scholarship, this support is for the 2013/14 academic year only).

To be considered for a National Scholarship, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Have an assessed household residual income of £25,000 or less (please note that meeting this essential eligibility criteria does not guarantee entitlement to a Scholarship)
  • Be enrolling onto the first year of their first full-time undergraduate programme of study at Doncaster College in the academic year 2013-14
  • Be ordinarily resident in England and classed as a ‘home’ student for funding purposes
  • The following groups, irrespective of income, will not be eligible for a National Scholarship:
  • Learners who are ordinarily resident in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland
  • Those who are NHS funded
  • Those funded by the Training & Development Agency for Schools
  • Those students directly continuing from one programme to another (i.e. from a Foundation Degree or HND onto the final year of a Degree programme)
  • Those learners who transfer in from another institution
  • Those learners studying a postgraduate programme
  • Those learners whose fees are paid or partially paid through a sponsorship arrangement

What happens next?

All full-time students who meet the necessary criteria and who applied to Student Finance England for state maintenance support do not need to complete an application; The University Centre Doncaster will be notified by Student Finance England of your household income (for this information to be provided you must have given your consent for Student Finance England to share your information with a third party).

In the first instance, all students/applications will be assessed on their household income – if we still have more than 42 students after applying the household income criteria, then we will apply a second criteria based on the highest number of UCAS points/qualification on entry.

Please note that meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee a Scholarship and that those students who are awarded a Scholarship will be notified in writing by December 2013.
