The Post Graduate Diploma in Creative Pattern Cutting provides a basis for new and practicing pattern-cutters to advance their subject specialist knowledge and experience. In response to the apparel industries demand, this programme will provide both technical and creative learning to an advanced level, for individuals wishing to build on their existing knowledge.

You will explore techniques and investigate skills in order to challenge shape, cut and silhouette leading to a complete collection of ideas.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Pattern-cutting will give you the opportunity to develop new and exciting concepts building on your understanding of the area, whether you are working within an established concern or freelancing as an independent pattern-cutter.

The fashion industry is a highly competitive area with designers constantly searching for the ultimate cut or drape making their creations highly sought after and coveted by all who see them. This innovative programme of study will advance your technical skills and help prepare you for a place within this industry.

Course Content and Structure

Semester 1

  • Extended Pattern-cutting techniques / Fabric Technology / Production Methods

Semester 2

  • Advanced Garment Development / Final major Project

All modules will be delivered by experienced subject specific practitioners, who have a professional understanding and awareness of current industrial practice.

Seminars, practical projects, critiques and independent research ensure that all development solutions are innovative and forward thinking.

Assessment

Written feedback will be given at the end of each brief, with formal assessment being given at the end of the year, culminating with a coherent and achievable Final Major Collection.

Entry Requirements

  • BA Honours degree within the field of Fashion (2:2 or above), or
  • HND and professional experience.
