CMI Diploma in Leadership and Management Level 5
The programme centres on the practical application of management
theory and principles in the context of the developing middle
manager, thus providing a foundation for continuing professional
and personal development in management.
The course runs over 34 weeks - one afternoon and evening per
week.
Where employers have a significant number of staff whom they
wish to develop, a flexible, customised programme can be offered
in-house.
Course Content and Structure
This qualification is intended for middle managers that are able
to demonstrate competence at the appropriate level in key areas
that include managing activities, resources, people and
information. This qualification is relevant to people who are
responsible for:
- Allocating work to others
- Achieving results by using resources effectively
- Carrying out policy in a defined area of authority
- Controlling limited financial budgets
- Contributing to broader activities such as change programmes
and recruitment
Students gain unlimited access to Europe's most comprehensive
management information resource, the Management Information Centre
(MIC).

Assessment
Assessment is via a combination of assignments, case study,
Continuing Professional Development Evidence; Presentation; Role
Play; Simulations and Work-based Evidence. This ensures that you
develop a range of key management skills and that you undertake
work study which is relevant to your own workplace context.
Assessment will focus on the practical application of management
ideas. Attendance at a Friday and Saturday sequential may be a part
of the programme. This is held normally in February/March.
Entry Requirements
Acceptance onto the CMI Diploma in Leadership and Management is
via interview by the CMI Programme Leader. It is expected that you
will already hold a Level 3 or equivalent management qualification
to commence on this programme or have work experience in a
management role.
Progression Routes
Students can progress onto the CMI Level 7 in Strategic
Management and leadership; or Member grade (MCMI) and Chartered
Manager status; BA in Business and Management - subject to meeting
the entry requirements as specified by the University of Hull or
the MBA - subject to meeting the entry requirements as specified by
the University of Wales.
