The programme focuses on the practical application of management theory and principles in the context of developing the senior manager. This qualification builds on current management skills and knowledge obtained in the workplace and / or previous studies. It provides participants with a greater understanding of the various roles and responsibilities involved in strategic management environment. Furthermore, the programme will introduce many tools, frameworks and methodologies that a strategic manager can implement to support the strategic planning process and the performance of staff in pursuit of the organisations goals.

The course runs over 34 weeks - one day per week.

This qualification is intended for senior managers who have the responsibility to translate organisation’s strategy into effective performance; this qualification requires the manager to focus on the requirements of implementing the organisation’s strategy. This qualification is relevant to people who are responsible for:

  • Achieving results by using resources effectively
  • Plan organisational policy in a defined area of authority
  • Controlling financial budgets
  • Plan activities such as implementing the organisation’s strategy; change management; project management.

Students gain unlimited access to Europe's most comprehensive management information resource, the Management Information Centre (MIC).

Course Content and Structure

There are nine units plus one overarching project. The units are assessed using various methods:

Assessment

Attendance at a Friday and Saturday sequential may be a part of the programme. This is held normally in February/March.

Entry Requirements

Acceptance onto the CMI Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership is via an interview by the CMI Programme Leader. It is expected that you will already hold at least a Level 5 or equivalent management qualification to commence on this programme and / or have appropriate work experience in a management role.

Progression Routes

CMI Member grade (MCMI) and Chartered Manager status. Students can progress onto the MBA - subject to meeting the entry requirements as specified by the University of Wales.
