MSc in Human Resource Management
The course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and
skills to make an improved contribution to your current or future
employing organisation. As such the course emphasises your skill
development. It is demanding of your time, energy and commitment.
You will be taught be tutors who are experienced HR Practitioners
who are either Chartered Members or Fellows of the CIPD.
How will this course help me and my organisation?
Upon completion you will be able to:
- Act as strategic partners within your organisation and ensure
all decisions are considered from the point of view of HRM
- Be self directed and able to act autonomously by applying
knowledge and skills gained to your management practice
- Deal with complex human resource issues and uncertainty
creatively and by using systematic models and procedures
- Communicate clearly to a range of audiences using a variety of
media
- Recognise the need for, and have the ability to implement and
manage, change
- Be confident in a variety of team roles and take leadership
roles where appropriate
- Make decisions in complex and unpredictable situations
- Make the strategic alignment between the organisation’s
strategic goals and the human resource strategy
- To lead in the development and promotion of good practice in
the field of the management and development of people within your
organisation and related bodies
In addition to University of Wales degree, you will be able to
demonstrate the knowledge requirements and, through the provision
of work based learning of the activities and behaviour aspect,
sufficent evidence to lead to Chartered Membership of the CIPD.
Course Content and Structure
You will follow the following scheme of work:
Semester 1 and 2
- Developing Skills for Business Leadership
- Investigating a business issue from an HR perspective
- Human Resource Management in Context
- Managing, Leading and Developing People
Semester 3 and 4
- Organisational Development & Design
- Organisational Learning & Knowledge Management
- Managing the Employment Relationship
- Resourcing and Talent Management
Semester 5 and 6
- Research
- Internal Consultancy
The Internal Consultancy will involve workshops and individual
tutorials through year 3 of the programme.
Students are required to attend a 3 day weekend residential in
year 2, which is devoted to the development of skills in the above
areas
Assessment
Assessment is based on a combination of the following
methods:
- Exam
- Individual Assignment
- Group Presentation
- Individual Presentation
- Report
- Portfolio
- Dissertation
Entry Requirements
Acceptance onto the course is subject to an interview with a
member of the CIPD team.
To be admitted to the programme, you shall normally:
- Have been awarded a Bachelors degree in any subject 2.2 or
above
- Have been awarded a Bachelors degree in any subject below 2.2
PLUS three years HR experience at advisory level
- Have been awarded the CIPD Certificate in Business Awareness
and Advanced Professional Study (CBAAPS) or the Developing Business
Awareness and Study Skills Award (DBASS) or equivalent, PLUS three
years HR experience at advisory level
- Have been awarded equivalent level 6 qualification in a
relevant subject (Management, Human Resource Management, Learning
and Development) PLUS three years HR experience at advisory
level
