Record Breaking Result for Cancer Support Coffee Morning

Posted: 2nd October 2014

Doncaster College and University Centre’s Catering and Hospitality Students have raised a phenomenal amount of £610.00 for MacMillan Cancer Support through taking part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

VRQ Level 2 Professional Chef Diploma Students coordinated the event as part of their qualification which took place in the College’s Waterfront Restaurant on Friday 26th September.  Visitors were asked to give generously towards a tasty selection of student baked cakes, shortbread and brownies alongside a raffle, tombola and much more.

Chef Lecturer, Lisa Pyott praised the students hard efforts, “The coffee morning was such a success, we raised an amazing amount within two hours. All the Catering students were very professional throughout and planned the event so well and independently. I am really proud of them all, well done”.

Students were successful in beating last year’s fundraising amount of £500 for the charity.

The MacMillan Cancer Support Bus also paid a visit to The Hub campus on Wednesday 1st October offering information and support about cancer, as well as delivering workshops on risk reduction and lifestyle choices.  Catering and Hospitality students were able to meet the team and Cancer Information Support Specialist, Amanda Fry echoed thanks to the students, “This is a huge achievement and the students have clearly worked so hard in coming together as a team.  We are grateful for their support in what we are hoping will be a record breaking achievement”.
