Waterfront Restaurant Wins First AA Gold Accreditation in Yorkshire and the Humber

Posted: 10th December 2014

The College’s Waterfront Restaurant has been awarded the AA College Rosette award and Gold accreditation for its high standards of teaching, learning, quality and presentation of food in the Food and Beverage service.

Doncaster College is currently the only College in the Yorkshire and Humber area to have received the Gold award.

The award was applied for at the beginning of the year by Programme Coordinator for Catering and Travel, Amanda Gleadall when she felt the college was ready to apply. A verification visit followed, conducted by Dan Powers of Peoples 1st, an employer lead charity designed to ‘recognise excellence’.

The visit saw Dan speak to members of staff, employers and learners about all work undertaken and the relationships they have here at the College. The restaurant demonstrates substantial commitment in matching learner’s skills with employer needs as well as an outstanding and proactive approach in professionally developing staff.

Even though the original application was for a Silver award the restaurant was found to be underselling itself and awarded the Gold AA award in May 2014.

The Doncaster College restaurant will be used as an example for other institutions as the award shows that the College stands out within the community and is a great place to come and eat.
