Initial Teacher Training Team Celebrate Ofsted Inspection

Posted: 16th February 2015

Inspectors visited twice, once in June and again in October observing a range of former trainees who now teach in a variety of roles concluding that the training provided on the PGCE and Certificate in Education programmes is ‘Good’.

The team are delighted with the inspection result and Programme Leader, Hazel Waller commented that, “We have really high standards for our trainees and I am pleased that this has been acknowledged.  The staff here work extremely hard to ensure trainees leave prepared to inspire and engage their own students in the future.”

Staff at the High Melton campus liaise closely with the town centre site, The Hub to secure teaching placements and provide high quality mentor and tutor support to trainees.  There are a wide range of learners on both the part time and full time courses, from those already employed and experienced in teaching, to those who are making a complete career change and bring vital industry knowledge into the classroom.

The Ofsted report states, “The training ensures that trainees become knowledgeable teachers who are highly regarded by their placements and employers.” Hazel agreed that, “The report is a positive reflection of the combined efforts of staff, mentors and most importantly the trainees who show dedication and commitment to changing the lives of others.  Teaching is about ‘making a difference’ and I am pleased that Ofsted have recognised the impact that the University Centre have made.”
