A team of Doncaster College students have reached the Grand Finals of the prestigious national Nestlé’s Torque D’Or contest.
Students Brandon Kingswood, Jessica Martin and Olivia Speight triumphed at the regional heat of contest hosted at the College’s Hub campus earlier this month.
Competition day began with master classes delivered by the country’s top chefs, Rob Kennedy and Alessandro Cristiano.
Students had to study the three course meal demonstrated replicating portions of their own for judging and serving. The team had to demonstrate great team work and getting timings right, with Brandon and Olivia working together in the kitchen to prepare the meal within a two-hour time limit whilst Jessica demonstrated front facing top-level customer service.
The Menu
Chorizo spiced fregola served with clams, mussels and squid
Cannon of lamb with a mint crust served with fondant potato, parsnip puree, peas and bacon
White chocolate creme brulee served with chocolate granola, orange chantilly and a brandy snap
Programme Co-ordinator for Catering and Travel, Amanda Gleadall couldn’t be happier, “I want to thank Nestle for a great day, we thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be one of the host colleges and am thrilled that we are through to the Grand Finals!”.
After seeing 36 teams compete in the regional heats over the last two weeks, Nestlé’s Torque D’Or announced the six finalist teams for 2015 on Friday. Each of the teams going into the Grand Finals have earned £1,000 of catering equipment for their college with each of the students competing also receiving a cash prize of £200.
Huge congratulations to the team and we look forward to the Grand Finals in March!
