Doncaster College and University Centre have recently held the northern regional heat for Johnstone’s “Young painter of the year” competition earlier this month. Competitors were put through their paces in the high specification painting and decorating workshops at the College’s Hub campus.
The competition involved transferring dimensions from drawings onto a work area and free hand painting the design onto a pre prepared work area. After a hard fought competition the winner was announced as College’s very own Joel Mortlock, a second year NVQ student who currently works for Painting & Decorating Contractors, Bagnalls of Doncaster. Joel received a prize of £100 and a goody bag of tools for his winning piece and will now represent Doncaster College in the national final.
The National Painting and Decorating show takes place in December at the Ricoh arena, Coventry to an audience of painters and decorators from all around the country.
Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year is a prestigious painting and decorating competition which celebrates young talent, promotes best practice and encourages young people to pursue a career in the decorating industry. Launched in 2005 the competition is now entering its 11th year, the competition gives this year’s students the opportunity to headline a decade of painting and decorating achievement.
