Double success at Apprentice Paperhanging Competition

Painting and decorating apprentice’s Thomas Mills and Mitchell Scott have received tremendous success winning first and second place at the Paperhanging Apprentice of the Year competition.

Mitchell Scott, 17, was named Junior Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year 2016.  Mitchell who works for G Heaton Painting and Decorating, Harworth and also studies at The College’s Hub campus said: “It feels amazing to have won the competition and to be named the Junior Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year”.

Thomas Mills, assessed as one of the top 3 in his respective category resulted in a fantastic second place win in the senior competition, received a £150 prize alongside his trophy.

While the competition – which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary – has been a long-standing fixture on the industry calendar, this was the first time there have been separate contests for juniors and seniors.

The final heats of the competition were held at the College’s Hub campus in October.
