Alumni Student Inspires Next Generation

Posted: 21st December 2017

Level 3 Business students had the privilege of meeting former Doncaster College student David William Hollyhead hearing his inspirational story of success.

David has overcome many barriers including disability and spent much of his younger years in care and wanted to share with students that regardless of whatever life may throw at you, you can still achieve if you put your mind to it.

Leaving school with just two GCSEs he has graduated from the University of East London with a 2:1 and has recently just completed his Masters at Goldsmiths, University of London. David explains, ‘People thought I wasn’t very bright and I wouldn’t go far because I had Aspergers and Dyslexia, so I shyed away and was unaware of my own ability’.

After school he completed a Level 2 qualification and was told he wouldn’t progress onto Level 3, until a move to Doncaster provided him with the opportunity to enrol back at College. Starting his journey at Doncaster College, David went from strength to strength, “The best thing about Doncaster College is that the teachers believed in you.  The school experience was so negative so coming to college you really wanted to do something you enjoyed”.

His mission is to inspire others to do well and make the most of opportunities.  He is now looking into studying a PHD and is currently traveling Australia and New Zealand.
