International experimental musician and composer Anton Mobin visited the Music Technology Campus at University Centre Doncaster this week to deliver a two-day workshop with BA (Hons) Creative Music Technology students.
The workshop formed part of Anton’s North UK Winter Tour, which also incorporated performances and studio recordings in Sheffield, Manchester and Wigan in collaboration with Charlie Collins, Derek Saw and Adrian Beentjes.
Whilst at the University Centre, Anton provided a detailed explanation and practical demonstration of his self-built instrument – known as the Chamber Préparée (or Prepared Chamber)– and then worked with the students to build their own microphones and experiment with innovative ways of generating sound through the amplification of found objects.
The workshop supported students in the development of ideas for their live performance modules, in which they are studying experimental practice and the creative use of technology in music performance as part of their Degree.
The students will take part in two public performances at Diamond Lounge in Doncaster and Access Space in Sheffield where they will perform their work between 14th and 17th May 2018.
