Six artists! Six styles! Six ones to watch!

Posted: 25/01/2022

Each year our BA (Hons) Fine Art & Crafts student are encouraged to exhibit their work as part of their professional practice and artistic development. This year six emerging artists in the final year of their degree have taken their exhibit one step further by taking over a full room within The Gallery Gate.

The Scot Lane gallery run by Kim Farr – artist, 2020 University Centre Doncaster alumni and champion for fellow Doncaster’s artists. The gallery is the perfect stage for our fledgling artist to exhibit, allowing their work and creative aspirations to be shared with a wider community, Kim said “having completed a degree in Fine Art and Crafts at Doncaster I know how hard it is to find suitable exhibition spaces. I am now in a fortunate position to be able to help emerging artists showcase their work to the public. This exhibition from six third year students is a fantastic example of the artists that are emerging from University Centre Doncaster. The ethics and hard work passed on from the art department there shines through in the work featured in this fantastic exhibition.”

Featured besides well-known local artists, these six females ranging from sixth form leavers, young parents and those steering their career in new direction have all chosen to exhibit induvial pieces that reflect personal journeys, interests, and the changing world around them.

Andrea Sutton Degree Programme Lead said “The Gallery Gate is a fantastic addition to the growing Doncaster art scene. We are so proud of Kim as one of our BA (Hons) Fine Art and Crafts graduates for having the drive and belief to launch her own gallery. Kim has been so supportive and encouraging to our current third year students who have presented such a professional showcase of a fantastic body of work.”

The varied developmental works shown, some of which are currently for sale, will go on to form the direction of pieces within their final show taking place in early summer, bringing together three years of creative production in one final show.

Running until 1st February, the ‘Six’ exhibition can be viewed Tuesday to Saturdays, 10am – 3pm. To find out more about The Gallery Gate visit https://www.thegallerygate.co.uk
