Course Overview

The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) course will start in September 2019 and will run until July 2020.  This is an excellent course provided by the college and most employers are asking potential or existing employees to gain this qualification, as they would now be part of a professional body.

As part of the course you will also be required to undertake 30 hours’ work experience, which we will help to arrange through our Work placement Officer.

Units and Structure

During this course you will be taught 5 subjects.  All of the units within the qualification are mandatory. Four units are assessed individually in end-of-unit assessments, but this qualification also includes a synoptic assessment, sat towards the end of the qualification, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification:

  • Bookkeeping Transactions
  • Bookkeeping Controls
  • Elements of Costing
  • Using Accounting Software
  • Synoptic Assessment

The synoptic assessment covers the first 3 units along with Working Effectively in Accounting and Finance.

The results of your assessments will be known the same day with the exception of Synoptic; this result takes 6 weeks to receive.

Entry requirements all students must have a grade 4 or equivalent in Maths and English.

I started working for ASDA stores Ltd when I was 16; I progressed through the company and held a number of managerial positions. In 2006 I decided to I wanted a change of career and I decided to study AAT at Doncaster College, I went on to gain my full qualification. I have worked in the accounting industry in a number of roles. In 2011 I came to teach at college on a part time basis delivering Computerised accounts.  Since then I have been teaching AAT levels 1 to 4. I have also gained my Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) and have completed my Certificate in Education with Hull University
