Course Overview
Students are not expected to have any previous knowledge or qualifications in these areas but should display an interest in pursuing an area of Art, Design or Media as a profession. This might be as a Fashion Designer, Graphic Designer, Furniture Designer, Artist, Animator or Photographer.
You will study Painting; Sculpture using a variety of materials; Printmaking; Ceramics, Textiles, Computer Aided Design and Photography. All activities will be underpinned by a core of drawing/visualisation skills.
Functional skills are a part of this program; English and Mathematics will be delivered throughout the year at Functional skills and/or GCSE’s.
You must be prepared to work hard through the course and in your own time to improve your skills.

Units and Structure
Assignments are set to explore various themes and lead up to an exhibition of your work at the end of the year.
You will study various components during which you will:
- Explore Visual Language in Art and design
- Explore Materials, Techniques and Processes
- Explore and Develop Art and Interactive Media Ideas
- Carry out projects in Art and Media.
- Learn how to present your work
The subjects will be varied and may include:
- Painting and Drawing
- Textiles
- Printmaking
- 2D and 3D Design
- Sculpture
- Digital Design/Interactive Media
- Photography
The components listed will be taught using a number of practical workshops as well as traditional classroom sessions.

There are no entry requirements for this course. All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Math’s and English. Attend an interview and display a keen interest in Art and Media and, where possible, show evidence of that interest through a portfolio of drawings, paintings or photographs of your work.

Progression and Employment
Opportunities exist to enter the Creative and Digital Industries at a Junior Level but further study would be recommended to achieve employment in many job roles including graphic designer and curator.
