Course Overview

This BA programme introduces students to the key areas of music technology, and develops expertise in its creative application within audio production, music composition, live performance and sound design.

Teaching is delivered through a blend of classroom lectures with hands-on studio work, with assessment largely done through creative practical portfolios. Students are guided by the experienced and committed staff team, with small class sizes meaning access to tutor support is available whenever you need it.

The Pro Tools HD studios, Apple Mac teaching suite and Apple Mac laptops are accessible to students at all times, meaning that you can access the facilities as and when you need. We also provide you with Pro Tools, Logic and Ableton Live software, and a range of high-end plugins from the likes of Native Instruments and Sonnox, so you know you will have all the necessary tools to achieve your creative ideas.

Through Years 1&2 you develop skills across the core module areas, and then in Year 3 you are able to choose your own project briefs that are most relevant to your individual career path. This culminates in a professional portfolio of work that you will present to employers in the final Semester of the course.

Recent graduates have gone on to successfully pursue careers within music production, live sound engineering, sound design for TV & games, music composition, studio / events management, professional performance, teaching, community arts and freelancing, whilst others have pursued postgraduate study and careers in academia.
We are proud of our status as an Avid Learning Partner, which means you can access professional hardware and software whilst studying with us. This also provides you with the opportunity to gain certification in official Avid Pro Tools software training alongside your academic qualification.

Applications are welcomed from students wishing to enter directly into Year.3 (Level 6) assuming suitable qualifications at Levels 4/5 (e.g. HND, FdA) have been attained.
