Course Overview

This programme supports learners in advancing their own personal professional practice in education through a learner focussed, flexible and collaborative learning environment. The qualification offers a core set of modules that allow the learner to advance in their own practice including modules on Information technology and leading change. The programme is delivered via blended learning that encourages collaborative learning and networking opportunities and makes use of a high quality and well-resourced learning environment at the Hub Campus.

Units and Structure

The programme is delivered over three years on a part-time basis, 7 Saturdays per year at our Hub Campus. Learning is facilitated through the use of G-Suite for education and session content is accessed via our VLE Google Classroom with other Google applications to supplement and support learning, for example Google Docs, Slides and Hangouts.

The Module content and delivery schedule are as follows:

Year 1 Level 5

  • Post 16 education and the education sector 20 credits
  • Principles and Theories of Teaching and Learning 20 credits
  • Research Skills- Action Research Project

Year 2 Level 6

  • The information Revolution 20 credits
  • Curriculum Development and Leading Change 20 credits
  • Information and Data management in Education 20 credits

Year 3 Level 6

  • Education and Social Justice 20 credits
  • Education and Advancing Professional Practice Action Research Project 40 credits

Entry Requirements

You'll need to have:

A Level 5 Certificate in Education/DET/DTLLS and at least 2 years teaching experience in Education and skills.

Students must be involved in education in a role that allows them to reflect upon current practice and therefore must have a DBS supplied by the organisation to do so.

Programme Leader, BA (Hons) Education and Advancing Professional Practice,​ ​Lecturer on Cert Ed, DET, PGCE

I have industry experience in graphic design and pursued a career in teaching after completing an MA. I have taught across the FE and HE sectors at institutes across Yorkshire in both Creative Industries and Education. I joined University Centre Doncaster in 2014 as a Lecturer in Education and am currently programme leader for the BA (Hons) in Education and Advancing Professional Practice (top up) . I’m particularly interested in learning technologies specifically the G-Suite for education, these have been a particular focus of my CPD activities. I’m working on developing the digital capabilities of staff and trainees in collaboration with colleagues across the college who share my passion for learning technologies aiding in the progression of teaching and learning.

I am currently employed as a Lecturer in Education within the Department of Education, Health and Community Practice working across the suite of teacher training and education programmes.

Debbie Pulleyblank

Programme Leader Teacher Education

I have been working in Education for since 1994 both in the United Kingdom and The Netherlands, teaching from Level 2 to Level 7 in the Further Education and Skills sector. I have also been involved in designing curriculum for Undergraduate, Post Graduate and Professional Programmes.

My industry background lies in Fashion and Textiles, but after moving into teaching I have worked closely with trainee teachers and acted in a mentor role to numerous new employees. I am also a qualified assessor, and have acted as an internal verifier and external verifier both in Further Education and Higher Education.

I am currently employed as a Lecturer in Education within the Department of Education, Health and Community Practice working across the suite of teacher training and education programmes.

Progression and Employment

Many learners will use this qualification to advance their own educational careers into other sectors including College based Higher Education and Private training organisations as well internal progression and development of educational provisions. Learners can also move onto our MA in Education Studies after graduation if they wish to continue their educational journey with us at Doncaster College and University Centre.
