Business Studies is one of the most interesting, relevant and varied subjects available.  Whether you wish to be one of the 3 million people employed in a variety of business and financial roles, this course will help you to develop a greater knowledge and understanding of the business world and develop relevant skills for employment.

Course Overview

The course will enable you to extend skills and knowledge and ensure a positive transition into employment or higher education and to develop skills that are required by today’s employers. The course prepares you for a role in an office environment, a business administration or financial services management role.

As you prepare for employment the course will enable you to become more commercially aware.

Units and Structure

The course is a combination of bespoke qualifications which provide a candidate with an opportunity to be ready for a modern office environment.

Units include:

  • Producing complex business documents
  • Understanding functions and roles within business organisations
  • Produce year end accounts for sole traders and partnerships
  • Management accounts
  • Be able to produce a VAT return

Additional studies include recruitment and selection, bookkeeping and employability.

You will be assessed by a variety of methods including coursework, role play, online assessment and examination.  On achievement, the administration qualification is graded Pass and the AAT qualification will be graded at Pass, Merit, Distinction.

You will be expected to undertake some research and written work for the qualification in your own time.

Entry Requirements

You'll need to have:

GCSEs at grade C or 4 or better in English and Maths.

All applicants must attend an interview and a selection activity. A diagnostic assessment of use of maths and English skills will also be carried out.

I started working for ASDA stores Ltd when I was 16; I progressed through the company and held a number of managerial positions. In 2006 I decided to I wanted a change of career and I decided to study AAT at Doncaster College, I went on to gain my full qualification. I have worked in the accounting industry in a number of roles. In 2011 I came to teach at college on a part time basis delivering Computerised accounts.  Since then I have been teaching AAT levels 1 to 4. I have also gained my Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) and have completed my Certificate in Education with Hull University

I lead programmes of study in a number of subject areas and I am currently course leader for the BTEC Level 3 Business Extended Diploma and teach on other business and travel programmes.
I enjoy working with the diverse range of young students and adult learners, supporting their progress in their education and have seen some real success stories with students going on to achieve in Higher Education and find rewarding careers.

Progression and Employment

This course provides UCAS points towards university entrance.

Students have progressed onto posts in sales ledger roles, accounts assistant roles and business administration within both the public and the private sector. Roles may be with organisations in retail, marketing, accountancy and junior management positions, however, this course can lead to a number of positions across different sectors including Human Resources, Banking and Customer Services
