Course Overview

Creative Media Production is a one year course designed to introduce you to the skills needed to become a professional within the Creative Media Industry. Throughout the year, you will work on a number of creative projects and live briefs, that build creative skills within: Branding, Graphic Design, Web & App Design, Production & Content Management, Marketing and Advertising. Within this you will have access to the full adobe creative suit, where you will develop your skills within a wide selection of programs, developing creative digital outcomes to be used within the media industry.

The course offers a number of creative trips to industry areas as to further your studies and gain some excellent experience. As part of the course you will undertake work experience within the industry with our close connections to local companies and external clients.

All activities will be underpinned by a core of research, visualisation, traditional and digital skills. The Course is equivalent to 1.5 A levels.

Units and Structure

The course is delivered through a series of 8 units, each with their own set of assignments.

Units 1-3:Within these units you will cover the theoretical links to narrative and audience, while practicing research techniques to structure your idea within the industry. Workshops are held to allow you to practice with software and build production skills.

Units 4-7: Are focused on developing your skills further through the creation of app’s, websites, branding pieces, marketing and elements of social media. In these units you will be learning interactive media skills and creating a website. Sound design will also factor into these units to make you you have an overall skill base. From the skills you have acquired in Units 1-7,

Unit 8: Allows you the freedom to select a graphic media project of your choice, that may have been explored throughout the year to take forward for the final major project.

Entry Requirements

You'll need to have:

  • 4-5 GCSEs grades A*-C including English
  • First Diploma in Media Level 2 at Merit
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
  • All students will need to present a portfolio of art work at interview.

Progression and Employment

If you have enjoyed the L3 Diploma you can apply and enrol on the L3 Extended Diploma for your second year. The second year will enable you to gain UCAS points equivalent to 3 A levels, explore apprenticeship and work opportunities in the local and national area. Opportunities exist to enter the Creative and Digital Industries within our own Apprenticeship Programs or at a Junior Level are available. Further education opportunities are available at the College within Graphic Design and Advertising.
