Course Overview

The Level 2 Diploma in Hair & Media Make-Up means that the work you do for this qualification is all about hair & make-up skills and real work activities to prepare you for work as a professional hair and make-up artist. You will work to create a series of 10 looks and build a portfolio alongside completing your assessments for your qualification

The Level 2 Diploma in Hair & Media Make-Up will suit you if you have a passion for hair and make-up and are either a beginner or want to extend your skills and become a professional make-up artist.  You need to complete 15 units from the core and optional units & you will cover this by creating a series of 10 looks/mood boards including bridal, photographic, pop art and rainforest themes.

The 15 units the course  include health & safety, client care, apply make-up, photographic make-up, dressing hair, create an image, lash & brow treatments, lash lift/perm, face paint, body art, nail art, hair consultation, shampoo & condition, plait & twist and temporary hair colour.

Units and Structure

The level 2 Hair & Media Make-up course is assessed through the following methods:-

  • 10 Make-Up and Hair looks – mood board & practical work
  • You will be required to complete 4 key assignments covering a range of knowledge and understanding from your main sessions
  • You will be required to complete 8 written exams and achieve a minimum pass rate of 70% including the theory of anatomy & physiology.

Entry Requirements

You'll need to have:

  • GCSEs 3 or better in Maths and English
  • Attend an informal interview
  • Candidates 16-18 would be expected to continue with GCSE English and Maths if required
  • All candidates are required to pass an initial and diagnostic assessment prior to enrolment
