Course Overview

You will cover a range of different areas, supervising staff, organising and supervising an event, bar control, including stack taking and ordering and controlling the payment point, planning work of staff, holding meetings.

Units and Structure

5 Mandatory units and 3 Core units covered, including one functional skill.

Mandatory Units

  • Lead a team to improve customer service
  • Develop working relationships with colleagues
  • Set objectives and provide support for team members
  • Contribute to the control of resources
  • Maintain the health, hygiene, safety and security of the working environment

Core Units

  • Supervise functions
  • Supervise drinks services
  • Support learning and development within own area of responsibility

Assessment is by completion of a portfolio.

Entry Requirements

You'll need to have:

  • Relevant Industrial experience, this level will suit you if you’ve worked in the hospitality industry or you have experience where you might already supervise others or manage resources, you want to develop your knowledge and skills, perhaps to move into a management role within the sector.
  • All applicants must attend an interview
  • Recognition of Prior Learning.  We will recognise the contribution of a person’s previous experience which could contribute to the qualification.

Progression and Employment

Progression on completion of the course may include a higher level course such as an HND or Degree.

Career prospects are excellent within this expanding industry, which is continually on the lookout for skilled employees, locally, nationally and internationally. This qualification will provide opportunities to gain work in a supervisory role such as assistant manager within a wide range of areas in the Hospitality Industry. These could include working in hotels, Army, National Health Service, contract catering and event catering.
