Course Overview

This course is of value to anyone considering a career in health and/or social care with adults or children and young people and is aimed at learners who wish to develop an understanding of these settings before deciding whether working in the sector is for them

It will also allow learners to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment and/or career progression in the sectors.

Units and Structure

Course content

  1. Understand the range of service provision and roles within health and social care (adults and children and young people) early years and childcare.
  2. Understand the principles and values in health and social care (adults and children and young people) early years and childcare.
  3. Awareness of protection and safeguarding in health and social care (adults and children and young people) early years and childcare.
  4. Introduction to communication in health and social care (adults and children and young people) early years and childcare.
  5. Introductory awareness of equality and inclusion in health and social, and children’s and young people’s settings.
  6. Introductory awareness of health and safety in health and social, and children’s and young people’s settings.
  7. Introductory awareness of person centred support in health and social, and children’s and young people’s settings.
  8. Human growth and development
  9. Understand the importance of engagement in leisure and social activities in health and social care.

To support development and career prospects learners will also study either functional skills Maths and English or GCSE Maths & English (dependent on current grades) alongside their Health and Social Care programme of study.

  • You should be at least 14 years old.
  • Applicants must have achieved a minimum of 3 x GCSE.s at any grade prior to starting the course.
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview.

Progression and Employment

Upon achievement of this qualification, learners will be able to progress to our Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, the Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce or the Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care.

The course will also furnish you with valuable transferable skills which can be used in a wide range of other study topics
