Course Overview

The programme will provide a broad base of topic areas that will enable students to develop their ability to critically reflect and evaluate their own practice from an informed professional perspective. Students will study a suite of modules that focuses on the safeguarding and protection of children from the pressures and influences of modern day society. In addition, students will identify current influences that are shaping policy and informing practice locally, nationally and globally. The relationship between the politics of knowledge and the social constructions of teaching and learning maybe explored. It will also develop enhanced awareness of macro, micro and international contemporary issues in order to clarify and determine priorities for innovative and enterprising projects within early childhood.

YEAR 1

  • Effective pedagogy and child development
  • Global contemporary issues and the construction of childhood
  • Attachment, trauma and therapeutic play

YEAR 2

  • Reflection in a professional context
  • Children as future consumers
  • Small scale work based research
  • Major independent study
