Course Overview

The course will cover the theory and practical training required to become a nominated  MOT tester.

The length of the course will be 30 hours over 3 days (block release).

Units and Structure

You will study 5 elements:

  • safe working practices in the vehicle test centre
  • working relationships within the vehicle test centre
  • managing your own professional development as an MOT tester
  • carrying out pre-test checks for an MOT test
  • carrying out an MOT test

Entry Requirements

You'll need to have:

To take an MOT testing course you must have:

  • have a current and full UK driving licence for the vehicle classes you want to test
  • be skilled mechanic with at least 4 years experience in servicing and repairing the vehicles you are going to test
  • have no unspent convictions for criminal offences connected with MOT testing or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation (quires can be discussed at application)
  • be of ‘good repute’- the Driver and Vehicle standards Agency will decide this to make sure you’re suitable to be an MOT tester

You can take the MOT testing course if you have:

  • Automotive qualification at Level 3 qualification (any queries regarding entry requirements can be discussed at or before application)
