Course Overview

Giving you a great introduction to a wide range of painting processes, this course builds on already gained level 1 experiences and pushes you to another level of learning. Doncaster College can support you in your personalised learning journey that is tailored to meet your own needs

You’ll get to study in one of the best facilities in the UK. Here at Doncaster College, we host national Painting and decorating competitions and all the major paint suppliers and manufacturers sponsor and rate the facility so highly that they keep coming back year after year.

This can be the perfect environment in which to build up your skills and knowledge in the trade.

Units and Structure

The Qualification Structure:

Your course will consist of 8 units. 2 core units consisting of Health and Safety and principles of building at level 2 plus 6 practical units which consist of the following:

  • Applying paint systems by brush and roller. You will learn how to use a brush and roller and maximise their potential
  • Applying standard papers to walls and ceilings. You will learn how to hang paper to ceilings and apply good quality papers to walls
  • Produce specialist decorative finishes. You will recreate decorative effects such as graining and marbling and stencilling
  • Access Equipment and Working Platforms. Learn how to work safely and use different types of access equipment and scaffolding
  • Preparation of surfaces. You will learn how to use correct preparation processes and a variety of hand and mechanical tools
  • Creating and applying colour. You will learn about the terminology used when applying colours.

Our workshop consists of 40 individual bays which promote independent learning.

There are 3 different areas culminating in 7 rooms which are set up to City and Guilds specifications, all having doors, windows and focal points such as fire places.

Entry Requirements

You'll need to have:

Completion of a level 1 qualification in P&D before enrolling on the course

The course will include the vocational qualification, Maths & English, tutorials, SOLE units and the chance to develop yourself both personally and professionally

Interviews can be arranged and there are taster days on offer should you want to apply for the course.
